Key facts

  • Separate 15-year energy supply agreement covers 2,700 MW in PJM's fleet
  • Agreement sustains roughly 4,400 existing jobs and creates approximately 7,200 construction jobs
  • Uprates upgrade turbines, steam generators and digital control systems at operating plants
  • Five-year alliance deploys Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise across Constellation operations
  • Announcement cites PJM's Bring Your Own Power proposal and the White House Ratepayer Protection Pledge

Google and Constellation Energy signed a 20-year power purchase agreement to add 890 MW of nuclear capacity to the PJM Interconnection grid, the companies said on October 6, 2026.

The agreement funds new equipment and technology at 11 Constellation-owned nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, raising thermal and electrical efficiency. Constellation said the first uprate is expected by 2028. The company put the investment at more than $4.3 billion across six nuclear sites. The companies said the work sustains roughly 4,400 existing jobs and creates approximately 7,200 construction jobs during the building period.

Uprates upgrade turbines, steam generators and control systems

Uprates modernize turbines, steam generators and digital control systems at operating plants, adding capacity without the multi-year timelines or interconnection bottlenecks of greenfield construction, the companies said. The agreement also includes load-shaping and demand-response provisions to curtail non-critical power consumption during high-stress grid events.

Second agreement covers 2,700 MW over 15 years

Separately, the companies entered a 15-year energy supply agreement for an additional 2,700 MW in PJM. Constellation said the structure keeps its operating assets delivering energy and capacity to the market. Constellation also selected Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise under an expanded five-year technology alliance covering site selection, power flow modeling, permitting and interconnection planning, asset health monitoring and outage management, and security for operational technology networks.

Companies will evaluate new generation, storage and demand response

A separate framework will evaluate new clean generation, storage and demand-response projects across the United States, prioritizing near-term work in PJM. The companies described the agreement as a response to PJM's "Bring Your Own Power" proposal, under which large consumers expand supply alongside their own load growth, and said it aligns with the White House Ratepayer Protection Pledge. Google said the capacity would be added without passing costs to residential customers. The companies said the initiative advances the goals of the federal UPRISE program, which encourages public-private collaboration to maximize output from existing American nuclear infrastructure.
