Privacy

Reading Signa needs no account and sets no cookies. Signing in is only for voting, and it stores as little as that needs.

Reading

Page views are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not identify you. The site sits behind Cloudflare, which handles every request on its way to the server.

Signing in

You can sign in with Google to vote for stories. Signa then receives from Google your name, email address, profile picture address and an account identifier, and stores them with the stories you voted for. Signa never sees or stores a password.

While you are signed in, a session cookie keeps you signed in, and the session records the IP address and browser it was opened from, to limit abuse. Signing out ends the session.

The newsletter

If you subscribe to the weekday digest, Signa keeps your email address, when you subscribed and confirmed, and which issues were sent to you. Typed into the form, an address gets one email asking to confirm it and nothing more until it is confirmed; signed in, your Google address is subscribed directly. The emails are sent through Resend, which handles the address only to deliver them. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops the digest at once.

How it is used

Your votes count towards the order of stories under Top; other readers see only the totals, never who voted. Your details are used for nothing else: no newsletter unless you subscribe, no advertising, and nothing is sold or shared.

Deletion

To have your account and votes deleted, write to [email protected] from the address you signed in with. You can also remove Signa's access from your Google account at any time.
