Westinghouse has placed an order with IHI Corporation for engineering and procurement work on long-lead items for one containment vessel and an associated CA01 module for the first unit of Poland's planned nuclear power plant. The work does not cover production or delivery of the finished components; Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) plans a subsequent order for those as part of the construction contract.
The CA01 module is made of concrete and steel and consists of 47 sub-modules. It measures more than 26 metres long, 29 metres wide and 23 metres high, and will house the reactor pressure vessel, steam generators and other components.
Three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors are planned for the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028, while Poland's updated nuclear power program schedules the first unit to start commercial operation in 2036 and the plant to reach full capacity by 2038.
