Nuclear Restoration Services has appointed UK supply-chain company Aureos to deliver the next phase of decommissioning at Dungeness A in Kent, NRS said on October 28. The contract is worth up to £190 million.
The project covers eight boiler units, each weighing around 800 tonnes, together with associated plant and infrastructure. The boilers will be moved using a specialist jack and slide system.
Aureos was selected through a competitive procurement process that assessed technical capability, project certainty, innovation, social value and cost.
The work follows four years of enabling work to prepare the site for this phase. Once complete, the project will have removed around a third of Dungeness A's above-ground structures. The first boiler arrived on site in 1962.
