Salem plans 200-MW uprate
Inspection found thermal-shield degradation in Salem-1, and PSEG expects its refueling outage to be extended.

Key facts
- PSEG plans a 200-MW uprate for the two-unit plant
- PSEG would receive roughly 112 MW; it owns 57% of Salem and Constellation owns 43%
- Thermal-shield degradation found during Salem-1’s October refueling outage; further testing is underway
Salem is expected to receive a 200-MW uprate, PSEG executives said on the utility’s November 2 third-quarter earnings call. PSEG would receive roughly 112 MW of the planned increase. It owns 57% of the plant, with Constellation holding the other 43%. PSEG gave no schedule for the uprate.
During Salem-1’s scheduled October refueling outage, a visual inspection found degradation of the thermal shield inside the reactor vessel. PSEG has started further testing and expects to extend the outage, according to its quarterly filing. The effect on the unit depends on the timing, inspection results and any repair work.
